Made the Team - Trey Archambeau Congratulations to Trey Archambeau for making the Varsity team at Northview High School. Trey (who played on the 15u Atlanta Select 15u SILVER Team last season, coached by Coach Copeland) will be starting at the 4 position. He spent a lot of time this fall after the AAU season working on his game, thus, this 6'4" forward is dunking over everybody.
He is the only sophomore on the team and his coach, Steve Bombard, has made it clear that he is expecting Trey to be an intricate part of the team. Coach Bombard took the time to make it clear in front of his team the confidence he has in Trey's ability to help bring the ball up the floor.
Trey is extremely excited about his selection and can not wait until the season begins. Their first scrimmage is this Thursday and the season begins on the 20th. Atlanta Select is justifiably proud of Trey's accomplishment and feel confident that he will lead his team to much success. Go Trey. Go Select!

Made the HS Team - Congrats - Bakari Copeland Bakari Copeland, (Guard, Atlanta Select 15U SILVER last season) made the JV team at Arabia Mountain High School. He will play the 1 & 2 positions. His coaches (Coach Daniels, Varsity, and Coach Campbell, JV) expect Bakari to lead the team this season.
Bakari worked extremely hard during the off season, incorporating into his strength conditioning workout, a "secret" workout that has increased his vertical leaping abilities to over 7" in 30 days. His persistence in working out has enabled him to increase his speed significantly, improved his footwork and now he is able to dunk the ball consistently. The number of tough games he played during the AAU season assisted in building his confidence and drive to excel.
He has grown over the summer, now 6' tall, has maintained a "B" average in school, earning the respect and accolades of his teachers, coaches and classmates. His coaches at Arabia Mountain indicated that Bakari (this Sophomore)is being prepped to be a leader in the future of Arabia Mountain high school basketball.
Atlanta Select is extremely proud of Bakari. He exemplify the motto of Atlanta Select - Confident, Aggressive, Relentless, SYNERGY. We are proud to have another Atlanta Select player to promote these principles and is prepared to play a major role on their high school team. Hard Work = Good Luck! Congratulations - Bakari. Go Select.

 Hey there,
Today, we want to remind you of the very important saying:
"You are what you eat"
In basketball language, we say:
"You perform only as well as you eat".
Its true, what you put inside your body can affect your energy, endurance, concentration and even strength...
Research has shown that even slight levels of dehydration can affect motor skills and performance, meaning that your jumpshot or handle might be a little bit off if you don't have enough water in your body...
Moreover, you need carbohydrates to fuel your body's energy processes, including energy for your brain.
Protein helps you build and repair muscle, and fats help provide energy and assist in other bodily functions that are directly related to basketball.
Here are some short & sweet tips you can use right away to improve your eating, and as a result, improve how you play on the court:
1) In every single meal, make sure you have a serving of lean protein, natural carbohydrate and some fat...aim to eat 5-6 small meals a day.
Lean protein is meat without a lot of fat, such as lean chicken, turkey, egg whites or even lean red meat.
Natural carbohydrates are basically fruits, vegetables and whole-grain breads. AVOID white flour, sugar and artifical carbs by all means.
Good fats come from olive oil, avocados, flax oil and basically any natural source. The worst type of fats are typically found in packaged foods.
2) Never overeat...ever! Overeating crashes your metabolism, robs you of energy, and just plain slows you down. Eat small, frequent meals to keep your energy levels high.
3) Before gametime or playing serious basketball, get some fruit and/or honey in your system for more energy, and drink atleast 24-32 ounces of water.
4) Creatine is a good supplement for athletes. Don't worry, plenty of research supports the use of creatine and its approved in the NCAA. Creatine helps you stay explosive for longer, so you may want to experiment with it.
5) After playing basketball, immediately refuel your body with plenty of good carboydrates(fruits and vegetables) and have a protein shake. This helps accelerate your recovery and make you stronger for next time.
So thats it for today's newsletter...
Eat well and play well.
