10u, 11u, 12u & 13u Boy's Teams SILVER Banquet.

The Atlanta Select 10u, 11u, 12u and 13u SILVER Teams held their End of Year Banquet on Sunday, August 15, 2010. The theme was "Harnessing The Power of SYNERGY". The coaches presented power point presentations of the highlights of the season, provided a final financial report, recognized the the Platinum, Gold and Silver sponsors and outlined Kick-off activities for the 2011 season. A scrumptious meal of fresh vegetables, mac & cheese, fried chicken and fruit punch was served. Pictured is the mouth watering celebration cake.

These four teams (10u - Coaches Christopher & Hughes, 11u - Coaches Baskerville, Lottie & Warfield, 12u - Coach Carpenter and 13u - Coaches Powell and Salley) earned more than 20 trophies this season, had 6 straight "A" student athletes, 16 A/B Honor students, One with a perfect Math Score on the CRCT, 3 student athletes that exceeded in each area of the CRCT, A second place finish in the 5th grade Science Fair and one student athlete recognized for high academic achievement and elected to the Beta Club and Young Men of Distinction.

The Mentor Leader - Coach Tony Dungy

Super Bowl-winning coach and New York Times bestselling author Tony Dungy was in Lithonia this week signing copies of his new book at Borders bookstore. His new book "The Mentor Leader" describes secrets to building people and teams that win consistently. Atlanta Select will select this book as required reading for its coaches this coming youth basketball season. It is believe that Coach Dungy's advice is something that all should listen to and implement. We wish Coach Dungy continued success.

Well players all good things must come to and end. Or at least temporarily. I'm sure you all have enjoyed your fling with Summer and experienced some great vacations.

 Many of you have put in work while vacationing i.e. Basketball, summer projects, reading,, chores etc. I'm sure when you look back on this summer you will see that you now possess many accomplishments due to your hard work. Now it's time to move on into the school season. That sense of accomplishment you're feeling right now, carry that with you to school daily. ALWAYS ROLL AS C.A.R.S. ready to accomplish even more academically. Walk those halls, sit in those classrooms, participate and represent as the young, proud and educated future of America you all are. The staff and coaches of Atlanta Select are surely proud of each and every one of you young athletes. Remember to be proud of yourselves for each and every goal you achieve because you earned it.

Playing for a Worthy Cause.

Four Atlanta Select teams participated in the Fairfield Summer Classic Tournament held July 29-31 in Lithonia, GA. This was a benefit tournament to support the planned Kidney transplant for Mrs. Tiffinee McGilberry, the wife of Coach Terrell McGilberry, head coach for the 13u Boys Team RED.

The Atlanta Select teams were the 13u Boys Team RED and 13u Boys Team SILVER (pictured together in the top picture), 14u Boys Team WHITE East and 14u BOYS Team WHITE North. The teams added three more trophies to the Trophy Count. More important than the outstanding play of the teams was the untiring support of these teams for a worthy cause. Our prayers go out to the McGilberry's and we ask for God's Blessings.

Nationals Champions - 15u Boys Team RED

Congratulations. The Mighty 15u Boys Team RED (Coach Mason) has won the YBOA National Championship in the Consolidation bracket in Orlando, Florida today. The team defeated the Hattiesburg, Mississippi Dream Team for the championship. The team was 6-1 in tournament play. Again, Congratulations, Go Select.
